Old San Juan
Walled forts, hot salsa, and rich history...
Built around 20-thick rock walls, the city beautifully awash in the history of this once heavy contested port city, and is the heart and soul of San Juan. The Spanish empire, in effort to protect its ship lines from the West Indies, built elaborate forts and fortresses during their occupation.
Today, Old San Juan is home to the island culture including the hottest salsa clubs and up and coming Raggaeton stars (a mix of hip-hop, contemporary R&B, reggae, and latin). Each night, just after dark, the streets come to life with local color and flair in the small bars and busy clubs along the narrow streets.
Old San Juan also offers some of the best, and certainly some of the most authentic restaurants on the island. From chichi to local hang-out, variety is the flavor here.
